About

Petra Ruth Alexandry

Born and raised in Jakarta, Indonesia, Petra Ruth Alexandry moved to the Netherlands when she was 18, where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in classical piano performance at Conservatorium van Amsterdam in 2016 and two master’s degrees in classical piano performance and music education at The Royal Conservatoire of The Hague in 2019 and 2022 respectively. She has a wide range of careers, as a performing artist, a music educator and a cultural project manager. As a performing artist, her latest and ongoing project is titled “Iridescent Women”, in which she performs with Canadian soprano Shanice Skinner to introduce vocal-piano compositions by black female composers. The project is set to be on tour across the Netherlands in 2023/2024.

Petra is also a passionate music educator. Petra attended seminars and workshops on various teaching methods (e.g. Kodaly, Dalcroze, and Piano Safari, among others), further developing her teaching skills. She was involved in group teaching as an accompanist and a substitute teacher at Rudolf Steiner College and PI: Muziek voor kleuters at The Royal Conservatoire of The Hague. Petra has owned her private teaching practice, Petrassissimo Music Studio, since 2016. The new lesson program at the studio is Jonge Maestro (‘Little Maestro’), a group lesson for children starting at age 5, which combines general music lessons, group instrumental lessons and chamber music in one session. Children can choose to focus on either piano or violin as their specialization. Jonge Maestro is designed together with Brazilian violist Barbara de Souza.

Aside from being a performer and an educator, Petra is also actively involved in several cultural organizations in the Netherlands. She was a project manager at PianoFest, Entree by Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and International Holland Music Sessions. Petra is also a part of ATANA, a traineeship program for future leaders of the cultural sectors in the Netherlands.
